Natural Mystic, Down to Earth & Spiritual is a journey of self discovery. An honest and powerful story entwined with supportive and insightful, spiritual guidance, paving the way for modern mystics.
Nicola Richardson has always walked to her own beat, music has always been significant and from a young age she has always been guided by spirit. For Nicola, it was normal to spend time in Spiritualist churches, being brought up by a spiritualist Mother and an open-minded Father.
In this book we follow Nicola on her path of mass personal development, where she shares her wisdom, guidance, and very real, 'down to earth' experiences of living in a modern world; supporting others to do the same. A path that has been tested and ridiculously hard at times - certainly not glittered with gold.

Mindfulness & The Myths
When I begin a new group or programme, I am often told that – “I can’t meditate, because I can’t clear my head”. I will always respond telling learners that I am not asking that they clear their heads.
There’s a common myth that to meditate, you must stop your thoughts. If you’ve ever tried to do this, you probably realised that not thinking is a very difficult task.
With practise your mind becomes calmer. The mind chatter is softer and less disturbing. But you are not trying block or fight your thoughts.
Forcing your thoughts to go away only makes them more rebellious. You work with your thoughts–not against them.
The aim is to create a bigger gap between thoughts, this is where you will find your moments of calm. The more you meditate – the longer the gaps become.
Some main myths are:
1. Meditation is mindfulness
2. Meditation is all about focus and concentration
3. Meditating means you empty your mind
4. Meditation is only for the spiritual or religious
5. Meditation is always done sitting cross-legged in the ‘lotus position’
6. Meditation is just for tie-dyed Hippies.
New Year intentions and channelled wisdom from my book "Un-Comfort Zone"
This for me is the time of the year, when I really begin to figure out what my intentions are for the year ahead. It hasn’t been the most normal of years, 2020, has generated a lot of uncertainty. From the uncertainty of 2020, what I can be certain about for 2021 is it’s unlikely to go as I plan..
With this is mind I am being flexible, about my usual – over ambitious plans for the year ahead. I am keeping them low key and really homing in on the things that are important to me. What I have managed to grasp from the madness of 2020, is that I am getting older. Not younger – clever aren’t I..?! (At last I grasp the fact)
It has finally dawned on me, after turning 44, that if I want to achieve all the things that I intend to, then I need to get really smart. I need to plan my time effectively and make sure I am in in the best state… mind, body and spirit, wise.
During this Limbo season, I have had time to ponder and reflect, my two favourite things. As someone who is obsessed with personal development, it is only natural that I take time to reflect and focus on where I am heading. Constantly re-evaluating and hibernating to give me that quiet time for reflection.
If like me, you are in the process of pondering on your objectives for the year ahead, how are you getting on? Are you clear as to where you are heading? Or are you in a total freaking mess? …. With your thoughts and ideas jumbled in your washing machine of a mind.
It’s not easy, to take a step back from being Mum, daughter, wife, employee and remembering who you are, and what your needs are. It’s not easy to regain your identity after spending the Christmas period taking care of everyone else’s needs.
But I am here to tell you, you must…... In order to be that woman that you deserve to be, you must take time to focus on you. Take some time out to prioritise your own needs, what do you need from 2021? After the year we have just had, isn’t it time you gave yourself some TLC.
"As you go about your daily routine, ask yourself - What can I do differently today?
Why must most days mirror that, of the day before? Each day we must challenge ourselves to go about our "routine" in a different way.
This situation which we refer to as "comfort zone" may be preventing you from living the life or being the being that you could be.
Be bold be brave, for you can make a difference, dare yourself to think and look at situations from a new perspective, Look for the miracle in each day"
Namaste.
My Top 5 tips for giving yourself TLC:
1. Schedule in ALONE time. In your diary block out time, to ensure that you have moments in your day for you to be still.
2. Cut back on the Christmas booze, it ain't good, and it messes with your MOJO. Leaving you feeling flat and often more anxious.
3. Take time to pamper yourself, baths, candles, sophisticated scents and cosy leisure wear. Let’s face it still no high heels for the foreseeable.
4. Nature and fresh air. Get outside, yes it is cold but wrap up warm and go be at one with the world around you. WITHOUT your phone. 30 minutes away from your email will not hurt.
5. THE most important of all. Sleep well. Do not underestimate the power of good sleep and its ability to help you cope with all that life throw at you. Broken sleep or not enough sleep will leave you feeling edgy, stressed, unwell and cranky as hell. Down all gadgets one hour before sleep, and spend time journaling to empty your mind, thus promoting better quality sleep.
Anxiety Tool kit
Anxiety is a feeling of unease, such as worry or fear, that can be mild or severe. Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. For example, you may feel worried and anxious about sitting an exam, or having a meeting at work or job interview. During times like these, feeling anxious can be perfectly normal. But some people find it hard to control their worries. Their feelings of anxiety are more constant and can often affect their daily lives. - Source NHS
In this video I give some tips and tools to help you cope. I have worked with clients who struggle with Anxiety, Panic Attacks and PTSD, I come from a place of personal experience and understanding.
I have been coaching for many years and am a qualified Life Coach and Mindfulness teacher. Author of Natural Mystic (Down to Earth & Spiritual). I’ve worked with the NHS, Charities and large Corporate organisations delivering well-being sessions to staff and service users.
An Excerpt from My book:
Panic attacks are horrible; your body experiences a rush of intense mental and physical stimulation. It can come on very quickly and for no reason. It’s very frightening and scary.
For me I would experience a racing heartbeat, feel faint, inability to breathe properly, sometimes I would be so cold I’d be unable to warm up, dizziness and a feeling of dread as though I was about to die. My stomach would be in knots; feeling like my mind was not connected to my body.
I tried to calm this anxiety with Meditation and Reiki, as I preferred a natural route. I became a regular in Holland & Barrett; buying Valerian, a natural sleeping tablet, Lemon Balm for calming the heart and the body and Vitamin B12 for the nervous system. I had to work on my fear of Reiki, because I knew it was good for me. For a while, I doubted my Spiritual path. In reflection, it all calmed down once my life settled again, but it was always simmering just under the surface and that is one reason why I use meditation, to keep my anxiety at bay.
Even to this day, when things get hectic, I feel it rearing its head again; like a mean old friend. It’s a sign that things need to calm down and I need to step up the Meditation.
Meditation is my safety blanket.
